Baby Shower Decoration Ideas

Simple, easy, elegant, adorable, inexpensive and atmosphere are what you want to think about when deciding on your Baby Shower Decorations. Use a few of them or use them all, depending on your theme, time, and budget.
  • One of the cutest ideas is to string a clothes line across the room and use clothes pins to hang little baby clothes, baby socks, bibs, towels, and more on the line.
  • A nappy cake, if done properly, can look very cute. Use as a centrepiece and give to the mother-to-be as a gift.
  • Balloons are timeless baby shower decorations. Pink for little girls, light blue for baby boys, and yellow for the "To Be Determined" baby.
  • Confetti gives a fun "party" feel to the room. Sprinkle confetti on the gift table, the serving table, and anywhere else that would look good.
  • Sometimes baby shower decorations look strewn about a room, without anything to unify and pull everything together. Streamers can be strung (with tape) throughout the party room to give your baby shower decorations more colour and texture. Streamers that match your baby shower theme colours tie all of the decorations together to look unified and balanced. Be sure to hang them high so they don't get in the way.
  • A personalised baby shower banner is an excellent and affordable decoration. Once the baby shower is over, the mum-to-be gets to take the banner home and can decorate the baby room with it.
  • Use some white tulle and run white, blue or pink twinkle lights through it. Bunch it up every four to five feet (so it looks like a swag valance) and drape it around the room. Accent it with coloured bows of your choice.
  • Baby Shower Cakes and Cupcakes look stunning when displayed on the serving table. Match to a theme or simply coordinate with pinks, blues and yellows.

  • An artificial Christmas tree can be decorated with baby socks, rattles, booties, baby caps, and small toys. Add pink or blue lights for a great conversation piece.
  • Decorate an umbrella in the open position, with blue and pink streamers and hang them so that they cascade over the sides. You can hang it from the ceiling near the gift table or chair where the mum (and dad) to be will be sitting. You can also decorate a rocking chair with streamers, bows, etc. also.
Remember simplicity. When it comes to baby shower decorating ideas, keeping it simple is the key. Do not equate simple with cheap, poor quality, cheesy or tacky. Rather, simple and classy baby shower decorating ideas will add a sweet feel to the baby shower that will give your party a fun, intimate, and memorable mood. AND you will not have to break the bank to do it!

Baby Shower Cake Idea!

These "building blocks" are ideal for a baby shower and are covered with fondant and decorated with royal icing. One sheet-cake recipe will make twelve scrumptious blocks.

Ingredients

1 White Sheet Cake
1 recipe Buttercream
2 pounds rolled Foundant divided in thirds and tinted green, yellow, and white (available at cake decorating supply shops)
One recipe Royal Icing divided in quarters and tinted blue, green, yellow, and pink
Cornstarch for work surface for rolling out fondant

Tools and Materials

Serrated Knife - To slice uneven cake layers with precision.

Offset Spatula - Its flat, slightly flexible metal blade makes this the best tool for spreading icing.

Piping Bag - Put each colour of icing in its own bag, so you don't have to wash bags in the middle of the project.

Piping Tips - A round hole creates a line or dot; a star-shape hole makes a ridged line or flower.

Plastic Coupler - Allows you to change piping tips to make various shapes in the same color.

Drinking Glass - Place a damp paper towel at bottom, and set piping bags in it when not in use.

Cake Turntable - Lets you spin the cake with one hand while holding bag or spatula steady with the other (a useful extra).

Baby Block Cake How-To

All these designs were piped with a #3 plain tip using royal icing, which dries hard in about ten minutes. Turn the side you're decorating face up before piping. Wait for the finished design to dry, and then you can lay it face down to do the opposite side.

1. Place sheet cake on clean work surface, top side up. Trim top to make level. Cut cake in half horizontally. Sandwich layer of buttercream between the layers. Trim sides of cake to be square. Cut cake into twelve 2 1/2-inch squares. Place each on its own piece of parchment or waxed paper. Ice each with a thin layer of buttercream to help fondant stick to cake. Chill blocks to set the buttercream.

2. Lightly brush cornstarch onto a clean work surface. You'll cover just one block at a time. Remove a 2-inch ball of fondant from one of the larger, tinted pieces (tightly wrap remaining fondant to keep it from hardening). Using a rolling pin, roll it out into a thin circle about 1/8 inch thick and roughly 7 inches in diameter. Don't refrigerate the blocks after you cover them; the fondant will get sticky.

3. Remove cake squares from fridge. Centre the rolled fondant circle over a block of cake, and place it gently on the cake. Carefully press the fondant against the sides of the block, working on two opposite sides at the same time and smoothing up from the bottom. Repeat for the other pair of sides. Gently pinch the fondant together at the corners, creating four flaps. Working quickly, so fondant doesn't dry out, fold two flaps toward center of one side, as if wrapping a gift box; repeat for opposite side. Use a dab of water to help the flaps adhere, if necessary. Trim excess fondant from base of block with a sharp knife.

4. Repeat process for each block, using different-colored fondants, as desired. (If trimmed scraps are free of crumbs, knead together and reuse.)

Baby Shower Decorations! How to Make pom-poms

These pretty pom-poms appear to float in the air; in reality, they are hung from the ceiling with cotton, imparting a cheerful radiance to any party. Pinks and blues look fabulous for a baby shower event. Heres how to do it!

Stack eight 20-by-30-inch sheets of tissue. Make 1 1/2-inch-wide accordion folds, creasing with each fold.

Fold an 18-inch piece of floral wire in half, and slip over center of folded tissue; twist. With scissors, trim ends of tissue into rounded or pointy shapes.

Separate layers, pulling away from center one at a time.

Bend wire into a loop to fit around napkin, and twist end around loop to secure.

Baby Shower Favour of the Week!!

No party-hosting enthusiast should be without a strategic assortment of spreaders for cheeses, dips, jellies and other spreadable fare.

I have a drawer full of spreaders in my kitchen, and I choose the spreaders for a particular event based on their distinctive handles. My handle designs complement the occasion, whether it’s a Halloween party, baby shower, Christmas party, birthday bash, spring garden party…well, you get the idea.

Spreading Joy!

For most of my well-worn collection of spreaders, I have family and friends to thank. They chose spreaders as wedding gifts, baby shower favours, wine-tasting favours—and I’ve saved every one! Every time I open that drawer, I pull out a few heartwarming memories along with the perfect spreaders for my party.

That’s why you might want to consider this adorable baby themed spreader for your baby shower.  You can use this spreader for the delicious jam and cream to spread on your scones and your guests also receive one as a favour to take home! Perfect!

Congratulations Amanda!

We're delighted to hear the news that Amanda Holden is pregnant!

We were all deeply saddened by the loss of her son at 7 months pregnancy back in February this year. Amanda is very rightly putting the main focus on herself and her family. We wish her all the very best! Here is Amanda's announcement:

Chris, Lexi and I are delighted to announce that I am pregnant and we are expecting a little girl. The first half of this year has been unbelievably difficult for us and so we are beyond delighted to share this news with you. My first priority is of course my family.I will therefore be adjusting one of my professional commitments accordingly. Due to its physical content this means I will end my contract with Shrek The Musical eight weeks early. I will endeavour to continue the show until the 3rd October. I do however ask you to bear with me as I will be putting myself and this pregnancy first. I have taken medical advice and although I am a strong girl and this is 'once again' a good healthy pregnancy I will absolutely not be taking any risks. Your ongoing support for us this year has been so touching. We are enormously grateful. Thank you so much for your understanding. Amanda xxxxxx

Baby Shower Decorations

When it comes to decorating for a baby shower, it is all about atmosphere. Think about what kind of atmosphere you "feel" you want to have at the baby shower.

These are some ideas of Baby Shower Decorations that you could use. Use a few of them or use them all, depending on your theme, time, and budget:

• A really cute idea is the Baby Clothesline Autograph Garland - string this across the room and ask each guest to write a message for the mum-to-be.

• Candles will make the baby shower feel elegant and cosy. You can find candles of different colours and scents to match any Baby Shower theme. Light blue, pink, or yellow candles would fit well.

Balloons are a timeless baby shower decoration. Pink for little girls, light blue for baby boys, and yellow for the "Yet To Be Determined" baby. Balloon bouquets brighten up a table display or corner of the room.  Helium balloons are great to scatter across the ceiling or tie to the Chair of Honor where the expectant mother will sit.

Cutouts come in all shapes and themes.  These are great to stick to the walls of the party room or on the door to greet guests as they arrive.

Confetti is another fun addition and comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes. This gives a fun "party" feel to the room. Sprinkle confetti on the gift table, the serving table, and anywhere else that would look good.

• Flowers give a fresh feel to a baby shower and smell fabulous. Flowers are a great way to match your theme colours.

• Streamers can be strung (with tape) throughout the party room to give your baby shower decorations more colour and texture. Sometimes baby shower decorations look strewn about a room, without anything to unify and pull everything together. Streamers that match your baby shower theme colours do exactly that; they tie in all of the decorations together to look unified and balanced. Be sure to hang them high so they don't get in the way.

• Even your plates, napkins and cups can be part of your baby shower decorations if they are the same colour as your theme colors.  Place them on the serving table to decorate that part of the room.

• A tablecloth is a simple and easy way to add to your theme and decorations. White works with everything, or choose a tablecloth to match your tablewear. You could have matching tablecloths - one for the gift table and one for the serving table.

• Baby Banner - There are numerous baby themed banners available, which brighten up any room. Don't go over the top with them. A banner above the serving table and one to welcome people as they enter can look fabulous.

Where are you having the baby shower?

This will determine how much or how little you will need to decorate. Is it in a big room with high ceilings? (It would be tough to tape streamers to a high ceiling). Is it in a restaurant? (If so, you are limited to just decorating the table where the party will be). Are there places to hang a clothesline up in your house? These are factors that will help you decide what baby shower decorations you can and/or should use.

Cute as a Button Baby Shower!

Cute as a Button is always a favourite baby shower theme. Pastel colours and neutral shades means its perfect for a baby boy or girl. Add a few flowers here and there and a pretty butterfly banner or two and you have a wonderfully elegant but very cute setting.

We suggest setting the theme from the offset and printing out some pretty invitations, attaching little buttons to the edges. We all have a few spare buttons about the place....

Bake some round cookies, put holes through the centre and tie some ribbon through to create a sewn on button effect. Either that or baby vests with icing buttons work really well or cute flower cookies add to the  elegance. Little cupcakes with refresher sweets on top also match perfectly.

Our Cute as a Button soap favours and place card holders / photo frames make wonderful gifts for friends and family or use as games prizes.

Yes, it is all rather girlie but then thats what baby showers are all about...

Ice Cream Theme Baby Shower!

Everyones favourite summer treat has to be ice cream! The perfect way to cool down - no matter which flavour is your favourite...

So, how about an ice cream themed baby shower?  It's perfect for these summer months and will no doubt suit every one of your guests. We all know many mummies crave ice cream in the middle of the night - no matter which weird and wonderful flavour in may be...

Invitations

Set the theme from the very start with a fun ice cream or beach themed invitation.  Your guests will get the message and they are easy to create at home or contact us to design one for you.

Games

Counting games are always fun, so why not have them guess the number of jelly beans or jelly tots in a jar?  They win the jar if they're the closest? You can even adapt a familiar favourite and have guests pin the ice cream on the cone!  It's an easy one to make at home. Create a full sundae bar complete with a seemingly endless supply of toppings and flavours.

Decorations

Incorporating the ice cream theme into your décor is fairly simple.  Use tall sundae bowls as a vase for a simple floral arrangement or to hold some sweet treats, and make ice cream cone name tags for everyone to wear.  Clusters of pastel balloons will almost look like scoops of ice cream when scattered throughout the room.

Favours & Gifts

Make sure that all the prizes for your games tie in with the theme, giving guests a chance to win a set of sundae bowls or an ice cream maker.  You get the idea.  Send the guests home with a little something to remember the day, like this delightful ice cream scoop baby shower favour.  It will continue to serve up the smiles and memories each time they use it.

By the end of the day, they’ll all be screaming for ice cream.  But, if you really want to heighten the experience, have an ice cream van come round with a much-needed delivery!

Mel B's Beverley Hills Baby Shower

Mel B had a star studded baby shower bash in Beverley Hills at the weekend. Kim Kardashian and Denise Richards were among the guests and arrived carrying some beautifully wrapped baby gifts - we'd love to see what was inside!

Kim's sister Kourtney was also spotted arriving at the celebration in Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon.

Writing on her Twitter account, Kim said: "Heading to another baby shower today! Everyone's got baby fever!"

Mel B and husband Stephen Belafonte announced that they are expecting their first child together back in March and the baby is due this summer. Mel B has two daughters already, while Stephen has one child from a previous relationship. Their jubilation surrounding their up-coming arrival is clear to see....."We're really excited," she said at the time. "We wouldn't have planned and waited for four years to have a baby if we weren't really excited about it and ready for it - even though you can never really be truly ready."

Mel B and her hubby decided not to find out the sex of the baby before the arrival as they would like to have a surprise.

We wish them both all the very best!

Denise Richards Baby Shower for adopted daughter Eloise!

Here at Tubs we love to hear all the gossip from a baby shower. Denise Richards, ex-wife of actor Charlie Sheen, held an amazing baby shower last weekend.

She celebrated the latest addition to her family with Three's a Charm - themed party at the Montage Hotel in Los Angeles, in honour of her third child.

Here at TUBS we have our favourite theme of course, which is the traditional British afternoon tea with a hint of baby thrown in. This isn't really a theme as such because as we all know anything goes.

Five weeks after adopting daughter Eloise Joni, Denise Richards, 40, threw a baby shower for her close friends and family on Saturday.

Guests included a very pregnant Mel B, a quite pregnant Tori Spelling and many more including Denises other two children. Denise had stacks of amazing baby gifts and games, not to mention the cake featuring a replica figurine of little Eloise and her big sisters, as well as a banner reading 'We Love Eloise'. Very cute indeed!

How to Throw a British Baby Shower

The word ‘baby shower’ generates a fairly specific set of images to many people.  To some it involves an afternoon filled with over-the-top themed decorations, themed food, themed games and baby-talk. This is the legacy of the stereotypical American baby shower.

My own insight and one that suits us rather self-aware Brits is to curb the over-the-top themed décor - we all know less is more. Get a gaggle of girlfriends together and indulge in an afternoon of delicious finger foods, champagne, alcohol free cocktails, laughter in abundance and plenty of advice for mummy-to-be.

My personal notion of what a baby shower should be about came after the birth of my first daughter. I’d always had the American stereotype in mind and didn’t consider organising such an event for myself.
However, after having my daughter and finding my life turned upside down and back-to-front, I did feel there should be a more ‘British’ way for ladies to celebrate such a life-changing event. A baby shower is, after all, a celebration – of the mother as much as the baby. It’s akin to a hen night but with less alcohol – a rallying of the troops, all the girls together with tips and advice about what is in store.

Becoming pregnant has to be the most life-changing event of all. While we’re familiar with celebrating the key birthdays, engagements, marriages, retirements and even divorces, pregnancy isn’t usually on the radar. In Britain we have gatherings once the baby arrives so all friends and relatives have the chance to have a peek and pass on messages of congratulations. However, this focus is on the arrival of the baby. What about the mum?

Baby showers are fun! They all have that in common but, rather than focusing on over-the-top themes and embarrassing games, move the emphasis to showing mummy-to-be she has a support network and give all the tips and advice you can think of!  Make a fuss of her, it’s all going to be about the child(ren) from here on in! Perhaps we should call it a ‘Mummy Shower!’

So, how do you go about it? Decorations are important but think about the pregnant mother’s tastes – vintage tableware is becoming very popular along with a few baby themed balloons and the odd banner or pieces of bunting adorning the walls. Mix flowers, butterflies, pastel colours and shabby chic in with the baby theme. This breaks it up and creates a well-designed party space to get the girls together. The Ultimate Baby Shower doesn’t just focus on the well-known baby themes, I’ve purposefully sourced a wide range of elegant girlie themes to mix and match to create a stylish room(s).

Games don’t need to be the sole focus and they certainly don’t need to be woefully embarrassing – as so many are. Baby trivia is a great ice breaker to encourage guests to mingle and laugh together; another popular one we have sourced involves baby scan photos and a list of baby parts to identify – much harder than you may imagine. Perhaps the most important is the advice cards. Every new mummy should have a set of advice cards from her close friends / relatives. They are there to look at at any time and some favours to call in would never go amiss….

Delicious food – canapés, a buffet or the ever-popular afternoon tea – is important and provides a natural break. Champagne and / or alcohol free cocktails create a refined table setting. Put out all the favours (thank you gifts) for guests to see and admire before they take them home. We have a huge range of beautifully designed favours and receive fabulous feedback regarding their impact - definitely worth a look.

What about the gifts? A stereotypical baby shower does tend to have too much emphasis on the gifts, which can be off-putting. Many people prefer to give the gifts after baby has arrived and this tends to suit us more superstitious Brits. If this is preferred then put a note on the invitation that you’re having a ‘mummy shower’ and gifts are not necessary. Saying that though, some parents-to-be do need help preparing for a new baby. In this case it may be a good idea to create a gift list, which we offer at The Ultimate Baby Shower. It doesn’t need to involve hugely expensive items but getting the essentials together before baby arrives can be a great start. We offer a wealth of advice to help putting these lists together.

Finally, to the guests - I’ve read a number of articles lately about men being invited to baby showers and the fact that couples baby showers are becoming the in-thing. I have to say I disagree with that, and judging by the comments on Twitter I’d say the men are not too keen either. It is customary for the new dad to wet the baby’s head after the birth and celebrate with his friends in that way. The baby shower is about celebrating the mum and nobody can do this better than her girlfriends.  It’s about creating a support network, which will be there long after the little addition arrives.
